Jim Corbett National Park

In case you are a true wildlife lover and believe that its nature that relaxes you the most, then Jim Corbett National Park, situated in the Indian northern state of Uttarakhand is the perfect destination to head for. Situated in the Shivalik hills of the Himalayas, Corbett is considered as a treasure trove of wildlife in the north India.

Jim Corbett national Park has a glorious past. It was a huge wildlife reserve, which can be simply termed as jungle. With the growth in population, the tree felling and poaching rose significantly in this area. Then British government decided to protect this wildlife area and too various measures such as demarcation of land and creating awareness among locals. Major Jim Corbett was pioneer in this direction as the first move to announce this 520sq km of land as a national park was taken by him as early as 1936. Major Ramsay chalked out a comprehensive conservation plan to protect the national park in 1958.

Jim Corbett National Park has always received backing of the government, be it is protecting as game reserve or anything else. The reserve is mainly shelter for tigers, which are already on verge of extinction. However there is a varied variety of wildlife in Corbett National Park and can be spotted easily.  Kakar or barking deers, wild boar, sambar, Gharial, crocodile,  Mahseer (fish), Goonch (Bagarius bagarius), Indian trout, Rohu,  Leopard, Macaque monkey, Langur, Himalayan Goral, Wild boar, Jackal, Otters, elephants, Chital and Para or Hog Deer are some creatures you can expect to see.

Many tour and travel agencies are specialized in Corbett tour, making your tour easier and convenient.  There are some good lodges and accommodation facilities, making your stay more pleasurable.  The Jim Corbett National Park has been divided into four tourism zones (Bijrani safari Zone, Dhikala safari Zone, Durga Devi safari Zone, Jhirna safari Zone) for the sake of tourist convenience.

How to get In Jim Corbett National Park :

By Air: The closest air strip is located in Pantnagar that is just 50 kilometres from Corbett National Park.

By Rail: The closest rail head is located in Ramnagar which is connected to all major railway stations in north India.

By Road: The Jim Corbett National Park is well connected to prominent cities of the country, while road condition is in great shape. It is approximately 280 km from Delhi, 403 km from Lucknow and very near km from Ramnagar. If you are coming from Delhi one needs to take the Hapur-Murababad-Ramnagar route.
