Chiang Mai, Thailand

Move over Bangkok, there’s more to Thailand than the noisy charming Thai capital city. There are scores of enchanting beaches if you head south and green, mountainous countryside in the north. Let’s take a look at Chiang Mai in north
The right place to visit Chiang Mai is between October and April because at other times of the year your holiday might be washed out in rain.
It’s a lovely city nestling next to the river Ping, with the mountains forming a beautiful backdrop. The 700-years-old Chiang Mai is Thailand’s second largest city but the atmosphere is very different from Bangkok. There are about 300 temples and a must-see is the 13th century Wat Chiang Man. The city is considered the gateway to other destinations in northern Thailand.
Tour companies in the area offer packages that include trekking, river rafting and even elephant rides. Added attraction in form of Spartan village stays are also thrown in. If you’re an elephant lover, there’s an elephant park about 30km from Chiang Mai.
You can get your fill of the most scrumptious Thai food here and shopaholics should head to night bazaar, reckoned to be one of the cheapest places to shop in Thailand-you can buy anything from Rolexes to Thai fabrics. Chaing Mai does have nightlife but it’s much more sedate than Bangkok. For Booking check here
