Top 5 family-friendly beaches in Brazil

As someone who’s been to Brazil loads of times, I highly recommend it as one of the world’s best holiday destinations, with plenty of unmissable flight deals available. I also know from experience and through friends that it’s a great destination for families with kids who are longing to explore a vibrant culture and beautiful beaches.

This post explores Brazil’s top 5 family-friendly beaches along with what they have to offer and what makes them so special.

PORTO DE GALINHAS has been voted by several travel magazines as the best and most famous beach in Brazil for the last few years. Originally a fisherman’s village, it is now a playground for celebrities and jet setters as well as for families. Porto is in the north-eastern part of Brazil. Positioned near the Equatorial line, it has warm gentle seas and sunny weather, which encourages an enjoyable atmosphere for children and everyone in the family. Porto is easier to access than many other beaches in Brazil because of its modern airport. Although the village is small, it manages to concentrate shops, restaurants, and dwellings in just a few streets with a central square. Hotels are located along the beach north and south of Porto. One of the main attractions are the tide pools; as the tide goes out, these coral pools fill up with fish that 20 or 30 swimmers can feed and swim with. Visitors should also check out the buggy and boat trips that go from the village to the beaches.

JERICOACARA is a fishing village with an eco-protected virgin beach in northwest Brazil. As it sits right under the equator, it boasts 320 days of sunshine a year. The Washington Post refers to this beach as "Jeri", a name afforded it by the locals, and it ranks as one of the world’s top ten most beautiful beaches. Jeri is also a national park. Its lagoons are made up of clear blue fresh water, large dunes, and calm seas. No paved roads are allowed, and buildings can go up no more than two floors.

BUZIOS is another picturesque fishing village in what has been named one of the world's most beautiful areas. Buzios is in the state of Rio de Janeiro on a small peninsula in the southeast corner. There are over two dozen beaches with waters that are perfect for swimming and snorkelling.

ANGRA DOS REIS is in the south section of the state of Rio de Janeiro. It was discovered in 1502 and consists of 365 offshore islands, many of which are owned by international celebrities.

FERNANDO DE NORONHA has 21 small islands in the Atlantic Ocean off the north-eastern coast of Brazil and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The single inhabitable island has the same name and can only be reached by plane or cruise. The family will enjoy seeing the wildlife as well as playing and swimming at the beaches.
