Downtown Disney’s Pleasure Island to become Hyperion Wharf

Disney has recently announced that the former Pleasure Island section of Downtown Disney will soon be reopened as the Hyperion Wharf--a brightly lit, carnival like atmosphere that will replace an area that was once packed with 21 and older nightclub crowds. According to company officials Hyperion Wharf will be Disney's modern take on a 20th century port city and amusement pier, with plenty of new restaurant and entertainment choices.

At one time a thriving--and relatively stroller free--nightclub district, Downtown Disney's Pleasure Island became a bit of a dead zone wedged between the Marketplace and Westside areas of Downtown Disney once the company decided to make the entire area more accessible to guests of all ages. The new restaurants, shops and other venues are expected to bring 1200 jobs to the region over the next three years.
