Crime Trends in Downtown
As the holiday season draws closer, car burglaries tend to increase. The Orlando Police
Department has already experienced an increase in calls involving cars burglaries,
with thieves targeting GPS Systems and iPods. We would like to remind you to remove
electronic devices, wallets, brief cases, etc., from your car. If you must leave them in
the car, please place them in the trunk so that they are not visible through the car windows.
The Birds are Back!
As the weather cools, birds are making their trek to Florida’s warmer climate. Over the
past few years, cormorants (a federally protected species) have posed issues at Lake
Eola. If you have ever parked your car under one the Lake Eola’s beautiful trees, you
have experienced problems due to the birds. The City has acquired a new technology that
will be used to discourage the birds from nesting around Lake Eola. This involves sound,
light and pyrotechnic effects that will disturb the birds to the point they will leave the area,
without harming the birds. Downtowners can expect to see and hear sounds and sights
similar to small fireworks at Lake Eola, beginning on Saturday, November 1st.
