New Universal Orlando "EarlyBird Exclusives" Ticket Program

ORLANDO, Fla. – Universal Orlando announced a powerful new ticket program today that offers consumers greater value and more flexibility than ever before.
Called EarlyBird Exclusives, the new program includes significant advance-purchase savings on everything from single-day tickets to a newly created multi-day ticket to vacation packages. And consumers can take advantage of the new program whether they buy from Universal’s website (www.universalorlando.com), other online sites, AAA locations or other professional travel agencies and tour operators.
The centerpiece of the EarlyBird Exclusives program is a powerful, new multi-day ticket. The new ticket – which becomes Universal’s primary advance-purchase multi-day ticket – allows all consumers up to seven days unlimited admission to both Universal Studios and Universal’s Islands of Adventure for $85. That means everyone has the flexibility to come and go as they please to both Universal theme parks for up to seven days – for less than the price of a one-day Walt Disney World ticket with a Park Hopper option.
“We’reOur guests tell us they have a much better overall experience when they buy in advance because it’s much more convenient and because it helps them plan their vacation more efficiently,” Hofmann said. “Now, in addition to that convenience, guests will know they are getting our best price.”
The new $85 multi-day ticket is included as part of several new Universal Orlando vacation packages. The new packages, available through Universal Parks and Resorts Vacations(www.universalorlando.com), feature both Universal on-site hotels and partner (Orlando area) hotels. For example, consumers can now purchase a three-night, four-day vacation package including theme park tickets beginning at $195 per-person (double-occupancy required). offering great value that’s easy to understand and that’s consistent -- regardless of where and how you buy an advance ticket,” said Gretchen Hofmann, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Sales for Universal Orlando Resort. “We want to give consumers the best Orlando vacation value in existence. And we want to give them the flexibility to come and go as they please for up to seven days without having to think about tickets and ticket prices.”

Coqui - A First in Florida

On the island of Puerto Rico, there is a unique species of frog known as the coqui. There are 16 species of coqui that live on the island. The coqui are very small ranging in size between 15mm to 80mm and the color varies considerably -green, brown and yellowish, sometimes having touches of different colors and stripes.
We've been told that the coqui is to Puerto Rico what the bald eagle is to America. The islanders love to listen to the coqui. The name "coqui" comes from the song that the male is heard singing, what it seems to say is: "ko-kee... ko-kee..." The coqui begin to sing at sunset and sing until dawn when they stop singing and head for their nest. Their vocalizations are lengendary and immortalized in songs and folklore and theyare considered a symbol of good luck.
The Central Florida Zoo will be the only zoo currently displaying these tiny amphibians. Exhibiting these animals will also give the Zoo the opportunity to honor the history, folklore and traditions of Puerto Rico. For more information on this wonderful new exhibit please visit

New Rooms At The Hard Rock Hotel at Universal Orlando

Hotel Launches $6.8 Million Rooms Renovation

ORLANDO, FL – It is the perfect mix of funk and just plain fun. Hard Rock Hotel at Universal Orlando is getting a hip and stylish renovation of all 650 guest rooms and suites, which will include 32-inch flat panel televisions and MP3 landing stations with connectivity to the in-room stereo system. The room renovation creates an overall impression of urban chic, with a sophisticated palette of warm neutrals, chocolate brown, aqua and lime. New technology blends with a new style that truly rocks!
We are creating a new vibe in all our guest rooms, not only with the new look, but also with the latest technology. Guests can listen to music on their MP3 players through the in-room stereo or watch a concert on our new flat panel TVs,” says General Manager Carlton Hudson.
The chic new look includes a complete upgrade of the bedding linen package, with new sheets, duvets, pillows and shams, as well as new carpeting, new wall paint and granite tops on the mini bars. New artwork of rock stars receiving gold and platinum albums will also be added in each guest room. In addition, all suites will have tabletop stereos featuring an iPod docking station/clock radio and all club level rooms will be outfitted with DVD players.
Hard Rock Hotel’s new room design also complements the sweeping mission-style architecture of the hotel’s exterior. The back story of the hotel is based upon the notion that it is the mansion of a former rock star who has amassed countless pieces of memorabilia during his years on the road and guests in the hotel get to live vicariously through him. Indeed, design elements in the new rooms were conceived to support the concept that every guest can live like a rock star during their stay.
“You can check out any time you like,” says Hudson, “but you’ll never want to leave.” Renovations are set to begin in late August and will be completed by early November.

Live entertainment will include musical performances by the Hellenic Band of Jupiter and traditional Greek dances by the Nisiotes Dance Troupe. Greek dance lessons will be offered on Friday at 6 p.m.; Saturday at 3 and 5:30 p.m.; and Sunday at 3 p.m.
This year’s festival also features an exciting auction of rare sports and entertainment memorabilia including a boxing glove signed by Muhammad Ali, a piece of Dale Earnhardt’s Number 3 car autographed by Earnhardt, the script from an Emmy-award winning episode of “Friends” signed by the cast, an autographed Frank Sinatra collage, and a rare collage of items from the first “modern” Olympics held in 1896 and valued at $18,000. The auction begins on Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m.
Many Greeks arrived in St. Augustine in 1777 after fleeing from the failed British indigo plantation at New Smyrna where they had been mistreated as indentured servants. They held their first religious service in St. Augustine at the Avero House, more commonly known as the St. Photios Shrine, on St. George Street.
The Ninth Annual Greek Festival takes place from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday; 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Saturday; and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday. The amphitheatre is located on A1A south of the St. Augustine Lighthouse. Admission is $1. For more information, call (904) 829.0504, (904)823.5906 or visit www.holytrinitygoa.org/greekfest/ .

Encantada Resort

As soon as you enter one of the biggest clubhouses I’ve ever seen, in Encantada Resort, you get the dark wooden doors, exotic palm fronds and wicker furniture of an English Caribbean Colonial plantation. From the pictures of tranquil sailboats amongst amber-colored shores, to the impressionist palm leaves frozen in mid-sway, by the concierge desk, you are ready for your piña colada by the pool. Large glass panels separate the offices in charge of keeping this tropical paradise running smoothly, so that a few feet away you can sit on a comfortable sofa sipping on a rum and Coke without a worry in the world, knowing that every question will be answered, every need will be fulfilled. As I sit in the spacious chair I glance up at the gigantic skylight into a perfectly-blue Floridian sky, and I thank the gods of plenty for the chance to spend a relaxing afternoon, and getting paid for it. It’s a living. But the present world intrudes as I connect my computer through the available high-speed internet connection and file my report, while at the same time I watch one of my favorite shows on the huge plasma TV set. I’m informed by Christy, the friendly concierge, that amongst the already existing amenities, some future additions include a pool table and state-of-art arcade.I reluctantly leave the comforts of my clubhouse (I can dream) and the fully-stocked bar and step outside to one of two pools located here, this one just outside French windows. The pool area, being lakeside with beautiful earth-toned tiles, tropical landscaping and lakeside location, has a distinctive Mediterranean feel. The gazebo at the edge of the lake looks especially inviting.Around the corner I find the gym. The Nautilus Universal Weights Machine and treadmill, as well as two plasma televisions, makes it very tempting to work out that extra portion of ham and eggs I had this morning. Now, imagine all of this, just minutes away from Walt Disney World and all the other attractions. If you think it’s too good to be true, it’s not! The beautiful luxury homes are available to rent for visiting families. It’s the perfect way to visit the Sunshine State in style without feeling like a tourist. These townhomes are around 1200 square feet of home, sweet home, with full kitchen, dining and living rooms, laundry room and some of them with their own pools. And when you stay in one of these wonderful homes you get full access to the clubhouse and all of its amenities. Some of these houses are, I’m informed, even available to buy, and after seeing them as well as the future plans this great resort has planned, it’s something my wife and I will seriously consider. The word “ENCANTADA” is the Spanish word for “Enchanted”. A better moniker could not be found. As I drove away I found myself enchanted and with definite plans to see this tropical paradise again. For more details please visit Encantada Resort

Family time at my sister Veena's home.

This past Sunday we were invited to my sisters place for lunch, one will not miss this for anything, she is a great cook and comes up with delicious menu selections. This time we had our favourite the chicken biryani, it is know as the classic indian mogul celebratory rice dish, each time we visit we have a wonderful time. This is a delicious Indian rice dish which is often reserved for very special occasions such as weddings, parties, or holidays . It has a lengthy preparation, but the work is definitely worth it. For biryani, always use long grain rice. Basmati rice with its thin, fine grains is the ideal variety to use. Ghee is butter that has been slowly melted so that the milk solids and golden liquid have been separated and can be used in place of vegetable oil to yield a more authentic taste. Hopefully one day I can convince her to open her own restaurant, I already have a name. To enjoy Orlando's great restaurant selections visit
