Pleasure Island to Close by September 27

The dance beat rhythm of the nightclubs in Downtown Disney will fall silent on September 27, when Disney closes down Pleasure Island and prepares to replace it with more family-oriented dining and shopping venues. Located between Disney’s West Side and Marketplace, Pleasure Island did well with young singles but was generally avoided by families with small children in tow.

The restaurants and shops in Pleasure Island will remain open during the renovation, but the following venues will be permanently closed after September 27, 2008:
Comedy Warehouse comedy club
Adventurers Club theater
Mannequins Dance Palace nightclub
8-Trax 1970s and 1980s themed dance club
Motion Top 40 dance club
BET Soundstage Club featuring hip hop and R&B music
New stores and restaurants will be introduced to the Pleasure Island location over the course of the next two years. Other areas of Downtown Disney will be renovated as well, including the Portobello Yacht Club, which will be renamed the Tuscan Country
